elegantly dressed Chrissies

Continuing the 'rock chick' theme from last week, here is Chrissie Hynde, that perpetual beacon. Oh yes: even now she's kept her look and it still works. Put her in a pop environment (how odd that sounds; still, we can't say 'on Top of the Pops' anymore, can we) now and she'd make all those desperately over-accessorised, colour-clash, falling-off-shoulder, lipglossed girls look like granny's favourite flea market. And that was always her charm. Even at the time she was the necessary antidote to Bucks Fizz.

You can't confuse her with Beautiful Crissy, whose hair grows ("all the way down to her knees!") if you pull it gently whilst pushing in her enormous belly button, and you can wind it back up using a flesh-coloured wheel on her back. She came in a very glamorous orange mini dress covered with orange lace, that even the infant Ms B knew was already two years out of date when she was brand new, and - uh - matched her hair... Everyone in the neighbourhood loved her, and indeed Little Miss Baroque does too.

But you can see how the path was wide open. And it is now. Chrissie, we still need you!
