I knew it all along

Jacques Prévert in an interview before the first showing of Les Enfants du Paradis, for which he wrote the screenplay:

"Cinema and poetry are the same thing."

Jean Pervert wrote one of Martin Bell's best poems, 'A Game of Royal Families'.

1acques Prevert, on the other hand, has something rather good there about cinema and poetry, not so much regarding individual films (the poetic equivalent of Death Wish 5 may not make it into Palgrave), but regarding the handle on imagery and details of narrative, the way it switches.

Les Enfants du Paradis is probably one of the best films ever made. That and the dream sequence from Gold Diggers of 1935.

George, one of my earliest cinematic memories is Gold Diggers 1935. It makes me wonder, sometimes.

That dream sequence feels gorgeously Modernist, too - refreshingly so, since there weren't thousands of film courses teaching kids to say it was modernist!

I'm working on an idea about all this, but it is a tender flower & may never blossom...
